For 2023 (and 2024 ...) - we are now fully retired from IT training.
We have made many, many friends over 25 years of teaching about Python, Tcl, Perl, PHP, Lua, Java, C and C++ - and MySQL, Linux and Solaris/SunOS too. Our training notes are now very much out of date, but due to upward compatability most of our examples remain operational and even relevant ad you are welcome to make us if them "as seen" and at your own risk.

Lisa and I (Graham) now live in what was our training centre in Melksham - happy to meet with former delegates here - but do check ahead before coming round. We are far from inactive - rather, enjoying the times that we are retired but still healthy enough in mind and body to be active!

I am also active in many other area and still look after a lot of web sites - you can find an index ((here))
how to set text widget read-only regions ?

Posted by christinawu (christinawu), 27 December 2004
hi, I try to realize that some regions in text widget are read-only.I mean that a line in text is read-only and maybe next line is writable in the same text. I try to use "tag" to do it but  it is not easy.  Someone has any good ideas? I would be greatly appreciated to gain any advice.

How about using two widgets - one for the read only text and another for the text that can be changed?

It's a good idea, but I hope a line is read-only and next line is writable and next next line is still read-only in my program.  For example:
/* ADD YOUR MEMBER FUNCTION HERE*/
void myfunction() {
     /* ADD YOUR CODE HERE*/

 int i,j;
 for (i=0;i<9;i++)
 {
     j=i*i;
 }

}
In above programme,   line with mark like"/*  */" is read-only, and other line is writable.

ActiveState Tcl/Tk help document  tells me that "tag configure" has options "-state". I try to use "$w tag config readonly -state disabled".  But my program tells me "no option "state"". I am puzzling greatly. How to resolve it ? Thanks a lot.
