For 2023 (and 2024 ...) - we are now fully retired from IT training.
We have made many, many friends over 25 years of teaching about Python, Tcl, Perl, PHP, Lua, Java, C and C++ - and MySQL, Linux and Solaris/SunOS too. Our training notes are now very much out of date, but due to upward compatability most of our examples remain operational and even relevant ad you are welcome to make us if them "as seen" and at your own risk.

Lisa and I (Graham) now live in what was our training centre in Melksham - happy to meet with former delegates here - but do check ahead before coming round. We are far from inactive - rather, enjoying the times that we are retired but still healthy enough in mind and body to be active!

I am also active in many other area and still look after a lot of web sites - you can find an index ((here))
how to send the correct escape character in expect

Posted by innerchild (innerchild), 3 September 2006
Hello,

I was wondering if someone could help me out with an issue.
I am writing a little script which logs into our out of band server.

so far so good but when i want to end the session i find myself having problems to send the ctrl + ] to return to telnet.

now i have read a lot of documentation on the internet but all suggested examples do not work for me.

I read a lot about sending escape characters but i can not get it working.

I need to get back to the telnet session because i use a script at work here which then will think the session is still open.

Even tried to kill the spawn process but that did not work either.

Could someone please help me out with this ?

thanks.

If you can post up sample lines that you think should work but don't, we might be able to tell you what the issue is.

As a "catch all",  you can use hex codes in a double quotes container - for example "\x42" will give you B and I think it's something like "\x1d" for a ] character.
