For 2023 (and 2024 ...) - we are now fully retired from IT training.
We have made many, many friends over 25 years of teaching about Python, Tcl, Perl, PHP, Lua, Java, C and C++ - and MySQL, Linux and Solaris/SunOS too. Our training notes are now very much out of date, but due to upward compatability most of our examples remain operational and even relevant ad you are welcome to make us if them "as seen" and at your own risk.

Lisa and I (Graham) now live in what was our training centre in Melksham - happy to meet with former delegates here - but do check ahead before coming round. We are far from inactive - rather, enjoying the times that we are retired but still healthy enough in mind and body to be active!

I am also active in many other area and still look after a lot of web sites - you can find an index ((here))
Interfacing the WEB server with TCL

Posted by ankur.vachhani (ankur.vachhani), 15 May 2007
Hi,

I am using TCL/TK(8.0 with Expect 5.21) for test automation for devices in LAN.

I am running my script from one machine which would configure devices connected to it through LAN (most devices are done through telnet)

Some devices have only WEB service running (no telnet), I need to send data (interface) to WEB service of that device.

How can I do this with TCL/TK?
Please help ASAP.

Yes, telnet to port 80 on the device and talk in http protocol.  There's a fist example here on our website.

Thanks a lot Graham
I got that now.

But I landed in another trouble... WEB service I am interacting asks for username and password. so Just telnet $host 80 says "connection resfused"

How do I pass username and password ?

Have a look at / program in authentication prototcol.   I don't have an example in expect, but you should do well statring at the Apache description of the protocol and headers required at http://httpd.apache.org/docs/1.3/howto/auth.html
