For 2023 (and 2024 ...) - we are now fully retired from IT training.
We have made many, many friends over 25 years of teaching about Python, Tcl, Perl, PHP, Lua, Java, C and C++ - and MySQL, Linux and Solaris/SunOS too. Our training notes are now very much out of date, but due to upward compatability most of our examples remain operational and even relevant ad you are welcome to make us if them "as seen" and at your own risk.

Lisa and I (Graham) now live in what was our training centre in Melksham - happy to meet with former delegates here - but do check ahead before coming round. We are far from inactive - rather, enjoying the times that we are retired but still healthy enough in mind and body to be active!

I am also active in many other area and still look after a lot of web sites - you can find an index ((here))

Hi Graham,

Your perl forum seems to have slowed down to a stop. Just hoping all is well with you and yours.

Regards,
Kevin

Hi, Kevin... yes - all is well, thanks.  In fact I did three Perl courses last month and I'm booked up for weeks ahead.

I've been analysing what has happened to the forum.  A lot of our users have been from outside the UK, and we moved the server to the UK (where we're based) during the summer.  I suspect we're coming up much more for UK people on the search engines, but much less for the rest of the world.  And UK folks tend to email / know a local contact and get in touch that way. There are maps showng current visitors at
http://www.wellho.net/net/visitormaps.html

Added to this, the forum software is frankly old and showing its age ... in need of being replaced by something easier such as SMF, and I'm wondering whether to do this over Christmas.   Have some experience with SMF already - see our other forum (different topics!) at
http://www.firstgreatwestern.info/coffeeshop/

Finally ... lots of extra stuff on my blog which is intenionally very technical and often includes generally published answers (and I think has suched some forum traffic)
http://www.wellho.net/horse/

Hope you are keeping well and busy too ... I do miss the selection of questions here, but if it was very active I don't know that I would actually have much time!

Kevin, yes, I would like to see a new(er) and busy(er) forum ... some good, longstanding friends here ... 2009 relaunch. What do you think?

Hi Graham,

Firstly, I am glad to hear all is well with you and you are keeping busy.

The server move could have had an impact on traffic.

Your forum software is quite old and does show its age. Newer software could only help.

I think a relaunch sounds terrific but of course you know what your priorities are and your plate seems quite full.

I'll check in from time to time and see how you're doing.

YHF,
Kevin

Looks like I'm not the only one wondering what's happened. Hi Kevin.

Sounds good to me Graham. Though, like you say, I'm wondering where you'll find the time. Looks like you had a good visit to the States.

Hi Ted. Good to see you are also still on Earth

Hi Kevin, yeah. I didn't get a notify of the posting (again), so the replacement forum will be a good idea.

Looked at EBlah the other day, not bad if you want large one. Nice interface.

Been messing around with an old one named Cutecast to see what I can do with it for a small forum. My old Scriptles Forum2/3 script is way out of date and needs replacing (twas for small sites that didn't need a massive forum system). Else write my own one (ur-ugh).
