For 2023 (and 2024 ...) - we are now fully retired from IT training.
We have made many, many friends over 25 years of teaching about Python, Tcl, Perl, PHP, Lua, Java, C and C++ - and MySQL, Linux and Solaris/SunOS too. Our training notes are now very much out of date, but due to upward compatability most of our examples remain operational and even relevant ad you are welcome to make us if them "as seen" and at your own risk.

Lisa and I (Graham) now live in what was our training centre in Melksham - happy to meet with former delegates here - but do check ahead before coming round. We are far from inactive - rather, enjoying the times that we are retired but still healthy enough in mind and body to be active!

I am also active in many other area and still look after a lot of web sites - you can find an index ((here))
setting Sticky bit on perl script

Posted by hugo_owen (hugo_owen), 20 September 2005
I have created a wrapper script in csh to grab UID which then runs as root passing the UID to the Perl script. This is not working because of Perl's security (Insecure ENV etc....). I had a look around the web and it looks like Perl has it's own wrap UID which I think would solve this problem.

Any Idea's

Many Thanks

Oh yikes ... I would have to start experimenting with this one ... no immediate clues personally but I know that a couple of other readers and occasional posters may have the odd thought.

Quick update, I have found the Perl wrapper its called wrapsuid.pl and it basically compiles a C program which then calls the Perl script. However it still does not work - been looking around the web and it looks like this is Perl's built in security and nothing can be done. This is a right pain as this is a complex archiving script which has taken ages to complete but |I can't use it. I think it has to be written in C.......
