how to extract the abbreviation from a given text Posted by phoenie (phoenie), 23 March 2008 Hi, i am a newbie in Perl.I wouldlike to know how to extract all abbreviations from a given text? Afer i had done some searching,i found out that maybe i can use CPAN. but how?Or i can have other alternatives? Thank you very much. Posted by admin (Graham Ellis), 23 March 2008 How would you define and recognies an abbreviation? You can write regular expressions for things like all capitals, for know strings .... the answer is probbaly quote easy, and if you can be more specific in your question I can give you some ideas.Posted by phoenie (phoenie), 23 March 2008 really glad to see your reply. For example, given a text, Dr. Alex is a very famous doctor. Now he is living at USA. so the output will be Dr. and USA. I have a doubt, does Perl has a library to define all the abbreviations? If we need to write the regular expressions?then how to write it? I really appreciate your helpin advance. Posted by admin (Graham Ellis), 24 March 2008 Thanks for that example - but I wasn't looking for an example, I'm afraid. I was asking you how you would define / recognise an abbreviation since that's the first step in working out how to actually suggest you go forward.Posted by KevinAD (KevinAD), 31 March 2008 on 03/24/08 at 22:26:53, Graham Ellis wrote:
