BB Code

Posted by TedH (TedH), 6 November 2006
In this forum, and others, code is able to be inserted by use of BB Code. This is very handy and as I'm in the middle of redoing my set of blog scripts I was wondering -  just how easy is it to implement?

It's not difficult but it would take quite a while to code from scratch and test, and you would be quite likely to find support issues / bugs / maintainance issues in what you had don ethat took up a further tranche of your time.

Whe I had this requirement for the archives of this forum, instead of recoding the BB code stuff I put in a call to the code that already exists in the forum's scripts - YaBB that we've still got here uses Perl and a quick require followed by a call to DoUBBC did most of the work.  DoUBBC turned out to have one or two dependencies and one of two globals that it used, but all in all a neat solution.

The required file was Sources/YaBBC.pl, by the way.

Hi Graham, I have an old copy of YaBB 1 Gold - SP 1.3.1 in my resources library and have found YaBBC.pl. I'll have a look thru it and see what I can do with it.

I discovered a module at CPAN that might help also. I could 'require' that too.

Well, that oughta keep me busy for a bit

Looking forward to Geekmas - Ted
