Opentalk Newsletter Posted by admin (Graham Ellis), 15 November 2004 The following newsletter has been sent to all registered users. If you're registered but failed to get a copy, please visit your profile and update your email address. - GrahamThis email is being sent to all registered users of "Opentalk" - our help forum which covers programming in Perl, PHP, Python, Java, MySQL and Tcl/Tk. Opentalk has been running for over two years now, and this is the first time that I've even emailed everyone in this way; I'll be doing so very occasionally in the future (perhaps once or twice a year) just to update you on any really major changes to the board. By its nature, "Opentalk" is a board that most people visit only when they have a question to raise, so without these rare updates in email they may loose track. If you don't wish to receive even these very occasional emails, please let me know (there's a link at the end of the message) and I'll delete your registration for you. NEWS FROM OPENTALK: 1. OpenTalk's home page is at http://www.opentalk.org.uk and the forum itself is now at at http://www.wellho.net/cgi-bin/opentalk/YaBB.pl Provided that you accept our cookie, you should have no problem staying logged in (there were a few early problems in this area). 2. If you're interested in keeping up to date on a daily basis, I'm nowwriting "The Horses' Mouth" - 5 or 6 items a week, ranging from Python programming to rants on Internet Cafes in Venice, and from a profile of Rasmus Lerdorf (author of PHP, who I met last month) through to an a description of Dublin's new tram system. Horse's mouth is at http://www.wellho.net/horse/ You're invited to comment on my writings too and (new today!) anyone who's posted on Opentalk in the past is pre-approved for this. 3. The Java notes that I wrote for our "Learning to Program in Java" and "Java Programming for the Web" courses are now available for free download from http://www.training-notes.co.uk/java.html under an Open training notes license. 4. For anyone who's in Southern England and hasn't heard about it yet, we're holding a Techncal Weekend at the end of November - details: http://www.wellho.net/net/geekmas.html No charge being made for attending, but please let us know if you would like to come. For those who have already expressed an interest, I'll be sending you an email in the next few hours with some further links. OpenTalk is a public forum run and sponsored by Well House Consultants Ltd, of 404, The Spa, Melksham, England. Our full contact details are at http://www.wellho.net/resources/contact.html If offers a venue for discussing issues that new programmers (and programmers moving to fresh applications) have in Open source languages such as Perl, Python, PHP and Tcl.
