For 2023 (and 2024 ...) - we are now fully retired from IT training.
We have made many, many friends over 25 years of teaching about Python, Tcl, Perl, PHP, Lua, Java, C and C++ - and MySQL, Linux and Solaris/SunOS too. Our training notes are now very much out of date, but due to upward compatability most of our examples remain operational and even relevant ad you are welcome to make us if them "as seen" and at your own risk.

Lisa and I (Graham) now live in what was our training centre in Melksham - happy to meet with former delegates here - but do check ahead before coming round. We are far from inactive - rather, enjoying the times that we are retired but still healthy enough in mind and body to be active!

I am also active in many other area and still look after a lot of web sites - you can find an index ((here))
help needed in developing a tool .

I need to develop an inventory tool that contains automated scripts which logs on to I/O system of Telecom Switch and run a fixed set of commands. These commands will do the actual work of collecting the inventory from proprietary hardware.
This part I know how to do .
The scripts that I will run will create a logfile everytime a script is initiated and every command sent and output received are all logged.

But I am new to the next part....

The data that is collected should be stored in a database and should have a web interface.

Please let me know how to move forward with this.

Thanks .

You're into Tcl, aren't you?   Then you might want to use Tcl on a web server to create the web page - in essence, you write a script that reads from the environment and writes to the screen ... but the web server 'diverts' it to read from a form and write to the browser, using the common gateway interface

There's a source code sample at http://www.wellho.net/resources/ex.php4?item=t241/tclcourse.tcl which should help you get started

Hi,

I need to store certain details retreived and these details have to be stored based on the date and time.
So anytime we need to check what the status had been of the machine on the date and time specified it can be retreived and displayed .

So I was wondering after getting the info of the machine it will be logged ( This will be done using the tcl scripts) but then how do I store it such that the details can be displayed as required....

Please let me know how to just go about starting with this...

Thanks,
