Allowing local connection through Firewall Posted by Chris_Isaac (Chris Isaac), 16 March 2005 HiI'm trying to allow access to my apache server through my firewall (Norton). I can easily block or permit, but what I would like to do is only allow access from the local machine which is running Apache, but I'm not sure what to put when it asks for an induvidual computer name, range or address, I tried specifying http://localhost but it said it was invalid. Any thoughts please? Chris Posted by admin (Graham Ellis), 16 March 2005 Hi, ChrisMy first thought is that your firewall is going to be running on your ethernet connection .... whereas "localhost" will be using the loopback (internal) address of 127.0.0.1 ... so logically the firewall doesn't come in to play. But the firewall software just MIGHT protect a computer against internal attacks too. I would try using "localhost" on its own as the computer name (without the http, which is the protocol) and if that doesn't do it I would try permitting connections from 127.0.0.1 Posted by Chris_Isaac (Chris Isaac), 16 March 2005 Thanks Graham,The localhost worked fine, it automatically picked up the 127.0.0.1 address itself. all working now. cheers chris This page is a thread posted to the opentalk forum
