Remember the web site design too!

Posted by admin (Graham Ellis), 6 September 2002
A reminder that I came across (my old writings, so I can copy them here ) to remember the HTML and design issues when you're putting up a web site, even if you're visiting "opentalk" to ask PHP, Perl or Java Quaetions!

Overall site structure

    Structure for the reader
    Trees
    Document size
    To refer or to copy

Within each document

    Sign it!
    Give its status
    Give links into context
    A good title
Don't format for a particular browser
    Think about printing it
    Keep it readable
    Don't mention the mechanics

Test your document

    Use many different browsers /settings!!

And remember

    Acceptable content
Educational hypertext and the "why" link

And I had a further reminder in a comment I heard just a few hours back.   There are a lot of web sites out there that are disappointing.  For your user's sake:

* Check it out with lots of browsers
* Have an easy to understand stucture
* Keep it short - not everyone has broadband like you do
* Your user is with you for content. Make sure it can be navigated
