Wget Posted by edmonds (edmonds), 30 November 2005 hello dudes in here, ladies too (if any).Just got an issue with my Suse Linux 9.1 gateway. Recently it had wget working well but I went on a working leave outa office & on returning, I cannot use it. Tells me 'Unsupported scheme' whenever I try to download any files using it. (wget -b url)Seems someone screwed things up but they cannot tell me exactly who or what. What could be the problem and how can I go over it? I tried re-installing wget from the CDs but same issue persisted. Hope you guys understand my question & come to my help. Thanks & kind regards Posted by admin (Graham Ellis), 30 November 2005 on 11/30/05 at 08:11:36, edmonds wrote:
The majority of people who work for Well House Consultants (who run this site) are ladies ![]() With "wget" a scheme is perhaps referring to a security of login scheme, but I suspect that the problem you're having is partly being hidden by your backgrounding of the request. As a first step in an analysis, I would try running wget without the -b option and look in the screen output for further clues. By the way - I'm wondering if the problem you're having may relate to a proxy server being configured / added between your system and your wget target, rather than any change to your own system. Just an extra thought. Posted by edmonds (edmonds), 30 November 2005 thanks for your inputI tried without the background option & the same thing happened. What else could it be other than another proxy set-up? Thanks. Posted by admin (Graham Ellis), 30 November 2005 You are giving it a valid protocol in the URL, aren't you?Code:

Posted by edmonds (edmonds), 1 December 2005 I appreciate Graham your input. So you think the problem could be with the url I fed in after the wget command. Maybe, maybe not. You know I'm not in the office & donot feel like hitting into it now but just want to get a couple of possibilities which could have cause the 'unsupported scheme' error so that when I settle in, I have a start. So far you've gotten me two options. One calls for trying out different download options, which I didnot try when what I wanted failed; and the other is checking the url which is 'unsupported.' Thanks, I could do with more though. Posted by admin (Graham Ellis), 1 December 2005 on 12/01/05 at 04:47:03, edmonds wrote:
I would suggest you try the two options already suggested before we give you more. The forum works on a question and answer approach. Please don't an expert to write a complete book on something because you don't feel like trying out what he's already suggested - if he's got it right, you're wasting his time .... and whether he's got it right or not, you're likely to be offending him by telling him that his time is expendable / cheap and you can't be bothered to follow through. Posted by edmonds (edmonds), 2 December 2005 Being nu in here had me on the wall, I've learnt the rules! This morning I went to office to try out the options Graham told me to. OOPPS, no single url works; at all for the wget command. AND, I have just got to know that even the linx (internet browsing on command-line) command doesnot work either. Seems like someone could have blocked a port or so. Can someone bail me out? Thanks, & kind regards. This page is a thread posted to the opentalk forum
