For 2023 (and 2024 ...) - we are now fully retired from IT training.
We have made many, many friends over 25 years of teaching about Python, Tcl, Perl, PHP, Lua, Java, C and C++ - and MySQL, Linux and Solaris/SunOS too. Our training notes are now very much out of date, but due to upward compatability most of our examples remain operational and even relevant ad you are welcome to make us if them "as seen" and at your own risk.

Lisa and I (Graham) now live in what was our training centre in Melksham - happy to meet with former delegates here - but do check ahead before coming round. We are far from inactive - rather, enjoying the times that we are retired but still healthy enough in mind and body to be active!

I am also active in many other area and still look after a lot of web sites - you can find an index ((here))
help.  how to config remote mysql db?

Posted by 4est (4est), 22 July 2003
hi,

ok, so i have my database, mySQL of course, running on my box through IIS.  additionally i have the IP, db name, user id, pass, and DSN, that my ISP has assigned me.  now i need to know how i can configure my db to meet these criteria ( the name, uid, pwd ) and how do i get the db onto their server?  i tried just FTPing the ip with the uid & pass and got denied.  maybe there is an online resource that somebody could point me to which covers this type of thing?  any help would be greatly appreciated.

There could be lots of different things here. Questions to help me help you:
* Are you able to get just simple web pages up onto your ISP's machine?
* Can you ssh or telnet into your ISP?
* Can you run your local mysql client
         -h123.123.122.121 -uwhoever -ppsswd
and connect in that way (if not, can you do so from a telnet or ssh session?)

[Edit - I was writing as you posted. Thanks for letting me know - I've left the answer up anyway, as you're not the first one to have this question]
