For 2023 (and 2024 ...) - we are now fully retired from IT training.
We have made many, many friends over 25 years of teaching about Python, Tcl, Perl, PHP, Lua, Java, C and C++ - and MySQL, Linux and Solaris/SunOS too. Our training notes are now very much out of date, but due to upward compatability most of our examples remain operational and even relevant ad you are welcome to make us if them "as seen" and at your own risk.

Lisa and I (Graham) now live in what was our training centre in Melksham - happy to meet with former delegates here - but do check ahead before coming round. We are far from inactive - rather, enjoying the times that we are retired but still healthy enough in mind and body to be active!

I am also active in many other area and still look after a lot of web sites - you can find an index ((here))
MYSQL and APACHE on local computer

Posted by torriv (torriv), 27 December 2006
Hello again.

is there a way to mace my mysql and the structure identical to the server where i have my homepage?

on my server:
/home2/triveran/public_html/

On my local computer:
C:\Programfiler\xampp\htdocs\hjemmeside_tor\

i will use my local computer to test my homepage before i put it up to my server.. so i can test it, here, without have to put it on the server first, then go to my homepage...

hope u understand what i mean..

Three options:

1. Write your code with relative paths throughout, or use a variable with a document root from which to access all resources - that way the actual full path doesn't matter.  That's what we do, and it's great for transferring between test and live servers and also makes it much easier to switch servers if you need to.

2. You'll find that most modern, open source software will accept / in place of \ even on a Windows based system in it file paths, so there's nothing to stop you setting up the same structure on your test server as on your live server, provided you stick with the same drive.

3. Upgrade you test server to Linux
