Snowdonia
Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales, is in this area and it's a popular destination

Climbing Snowdon by train
The Snowdon Mountain Railway is over 100 years old now, and the old steam engines are still in use (although there are diesel engines too). It's a "rack railway" with gearwheels under the locomotives which engage in in pinion in the centre of the track to give better adhesion on the steep climb. Indeed, so steep is the line that the boilers on the steam engines are slanted to keep the water level as they climb.
