For 2023 (and 2024 ...) - we are now fully retired from IT training.
We have made many, many friends over 25 years of teaching about Python, Tcl, Perl, PHP, Lua, Java, C and C++ - and MySQL, Linux and Solaris/SunOS too. Our training notes are now very much out of date, but due to upward compatability most of our examples remain operational and even relevant ad you are welcome to make us if them "as seen" and at your own risk.

Lisa and I (Graham) now live in what was our training centre in Melksham - happy to meet with former delegates here - but do check ahead before coming round. We are far from inactive - rather, enjoying the times that we are retired but still healthy enough in mind and body to be active!

I am also active in many other area and still look after a lot of web sites - you can find an index ((here))
Which versions Mysql/Apache?

Posted by Chris_Isaac (Chris Isaac), 18 January 2004
Hi

Was hoping you could point me in the right direction.  I want to install MySQL, PHP and Apache on my local machine for test purposes.

I managed to work out which version of PHP I needed, but am unsure about the MySQL and Apache.  I downloaded a version of Apache (1.3...) and installed it on 1 of my machines, and it is working, but I noticed on their website this morning they recommend version 2.??  Is there a major difference?

With regard to MySQL I downloaded a Source Windows Zip version (about 7MB) but when I unzipped it it didn't have the setup.exe file, should I have downloaded the binary version (about 22MB) ?

Thanks in advance.

I would suggest you download the Win32 Binary for Apache version 2.0.48 (you don't want to have to compile from sources), and MySQL version 4.0.17, again as a binary.
