For 2023 (and 2024 ...) - we are now fully retired from IT training.
We have made many, many friends over 25 years of teaching about Python, Tcl, Perl, PHP, Lua, Java, C and C++ - and MySQL, Linux and Solaris/SunOS too. Our training notes are now very much out of date, but due to upward compatability most of our examples remain operational and even relevant ad you are welcome to make us if them "as seen" and at your own risk.

Lisa and I (Graham) now live in what was our training centre in Melksham - happy to meet with former delegates here - but do check ahead before coming round. We are far from inactive - rather, enjoying the times that we are retired but still healthy enough in mind and body to be active!

I am also active in many other area and still look after a lot of web sites - you can find an index ((here))
Object Oriented Terminology glossary

Posted by admin (Graham Ellis), 13 August 2004
There's a whole language associated with Object Orinetation and you?ll find you can?t avoid the words for too long. This terminology turns out to be very helpful as it lets you define and describe OO projects with clarity across languages.

object      a thing
instance      a specific case of a thing (as in "an instance of an object")
class      a type of thing (as in "an instance of an object of class xxxxx")
method      a named piece of code
constructor      a piece of code that creates an object
destructor      a piece of code that closes down an object
inheritance      how one class of object can share code from others
polymorphism      how a call does different things depending on the data passed
overloading      defining a new action for an operation to override another action
subclass      a class that's based on another but with just differences defined
to extend      to define one class based on another
base class      a clase that's used to provide the start point for a subclass

static or class method      a method based on the class not the instance
dynamic or object method      a method based on a specific instance
