Oxford and Cambridge were the two original universities in Great Britain - and both are beautiful cities that are located about an hour from London - although in different directions. Cambridge (shown on this page) is to the North North East of London - on the edge of the flat fens that reach out to Ely, Peterborough and Lincolnshire beyond.

The river Cam - great for a quick punt

The River Cam flows up to Cambridge - you'll find motorized boats on the sections below Jesus Lock, but they're discouraged from locking up there, and so "The Backs" such as shown in the picture above, with a tiny corner of Trinity College, are the preserve of pleasure boats such as punts.
