Milton Keynes, in Buckinghamshire, is a "New" town that's now of some 30 years vintage, built in the countryside between
London and
Birmingham and taking villages such as Simpson, Bletchley, Stony Stratford and Newport Pagnall.
The countryside is flat ... and there are lakes and the Grand Union Canal running through the area.

Milton Keynes is also the home of the Open University - dedicated to distance learning on the part of mature students, it's a campus with only staff and post-graduate researchers. It's based around the Georgian (?) Walton Hall, but with a wide selection of modern buildings dwarfing the hall.

Milton Keynes - the Open University
Although Milton Keynes is famous for its grid road layout - from V1 to V10 for vertical and from H1 to somewhere around H10 for horizontal, it's much more than that. In some of the resulting squares there is a countryside, in other the lakes, and in others areas of housing and communities.

It's also easy - very easy - to walk or to cycle around the town, through the many parks and along the cycleways such as this one here which you see passing under H8 near Furston.
