There appears to be a break in service to one of our web space providers. wellhousemanor, firstgreatwestern.info and some others are offline. Initial indications are that this is a wide area problem and not just our system.

Back online by 09:10 - issue was DNS resolution rather than our server itself.

10th December - we are currently (12:00 to 14:00) doing some preliminary backups and tidies. Some slight interruptions possible


We have been notified by our web space providers that the infrastructure around our servers is to be altered, and perhaps our servers physicically moved, as follows:

"Please be advised that we will need to briefly shut down your server while technicians perform an internal hardware realignment. This realignment will be performed overnight from 10 December to 11 December, between 11:00 PM and 06:00 AM. Your server will not be accessible during this time."

12:45 - server back up. Down again for about 1 hour
during afternoon - sorry. Closely monitoring.
No further issues in the following week

12:00 The server which hosts various sites including www.wellhousemanor.co.uk, www.melkshamhotel.org.uk, www.savethetrain.org.uk and www.firstgreatwestern.info is currently offline. Update in about an hour



21:15 back in service.

20:55 Hardware problems on server. Being worked on

No further hardware issues in the last week - it looks as though it was indeed the power supply that was causing problems.

Our main site has experienced a considerable growth in traffic (3 fold in the last six months) and in order to reduce c.p.u. load we have recently added some table indexes and we have short-cut some of the error pages returned to malicious crawlers. These changes should not affect the general user, nor respected spiders such as Yahoo and Google. See here for further technical details.



09:30 I understand that the power supply on the server or equipment near it has been replaced and it is hoped that the server should function correctly

07:30 One of our dedicated servers is presently in maintainance mode. The problems are / have been at least partly hardware ones related to the network connections and controls on the machine, and whilst we're doing everything we can to get the server back up and running properly and consistently, we can't give positive timings at present.

Sites effected include www.wellhousemanor.co.uk, www.melkshamhotel.org.uk, www.savethetrain.org.uk and www.firstgreatwestern.info. This page is hosted on www.wellho.net which is running correctly.
