Service to all domains was interrupted from 03:17 to 04:45 due to a power supply unit failure in our dedicated server. Thanks to Network Centre staff for a quick change!


Service to all domains was interrupted for 55 minutes in the late afternoon due to network centre problems. Our servers ran as normal (but hidden from the internet) and no data was lost.


Coffee Shop has been running AOK since yesterday afternoon, and it appears that the fix has cured the issues we were having.


The First Great Western Coffee Shop Forum has issues (08:00). At 09:15 I have taken it offline to investigate and will be reporting back here by 10:30. No e.t.a. for return yet.

Back at around 09:30 - however, that was for testing and it has failed again indicating a potentially bigger issue which I am looking into (at 13:45).

14:00 ... Known issues with some missing threads and also personal message / mailboxes. Will be working on those tonight. You need to ask for a password reset as we're using stronger encryption now.

11:00 ... Coffee Shop mostly back - checking it; posts not guaranteed to remain / correct for the next 24 hours

09:00 - Coffee shop needs various format conversions - I have the data but not the time before training today so it will probably be tonight before it comes back. Have to do the paid sites and work first, as they give me the income to sponsor the Coffee Shop ;-) - hope you understand!

22:15 Service restored for www.wellhousemanor.co.uk (that's our business / hotel site). It may still take some time for this to click in for everyone, as the work involved a move of host computers and that can take 24 hours to percolate through the system.

14:00 Service should be restored within next 18 hours for most users. Opportunity of server problem being taken to upgrade ;-)

Returned at around 15:30 and now all running OK. Appears to have been an infrastructure problem near to our server and not the system itself.



There appears to be a break in service to one of our web space providers. wellhousemanor, firstgreatwestern.info and some others are offline. Initial indications are that this is a wide area problem and not just our system.

Back online by 09:10 - issue was DNS resolution rather than our server itself.

No further hardware issues in the last week - it looks as though it was indeed the power supply that was causing problems.

Our main site has experienced a considerable growth in traffic (3 fold in the last six months) and in order to reduce c.p.u. load we have recently added some table indexes and we have short-cut some of the error pages returned to malicious crawlers. These changes should not affect the general user, nor respected spiders such as Yahoo and Google. See here for further technical details.

07:30 One of our dedicated servers is presently in maintainance mode. The problems are / have been at least partly hardware ones related to the network connections and controls on the machine, and whilst we're doing everything we can to get the server back up and running properly and consistently, we can't give positive timings at present.
