For 2023 (and 2024 ...) - we are now fully retired from IT training. We have made many, many friends over 25 years of teaching about Python, Tcl, Perl, PHP, Lua, Java, C and C++ - and MySQL, Linux and Solaris/SunOS too. Our training notes are now very much out of date, but due to upward compatability most of our examples remain operational and even relevant ad you are welcome to make us if them "as seen" and at your own risk.
Lisa and I (Graham) now live in what was our training centre in Melksham - happy to meet with former delegates here - but do check ahead before coming round. We are far from inactive - rather, enjoying the times that we are retired but still healthy enough in mind and body to be active!
I am also active in many other area and still look after a lot of web sites - you can find an index ((here)) |

These technologies get peripheral ... | 2010-12-29 | 1929 | 2009 - Hotel, Meeting, Training Course prices Well House Manor / Well House Consultants - prices for 2009 (valid from December 2008)

Two days of a streaming cold ... and I've been sleeping and drinking (hot soft drinks!) about twice as much as usual. The extra sleep has cost blogging time ... but more important to get the customer service right for the people who immediately staying or I am training.
An interesting question, though, ... | 2010-12-04 | 2953 | Turning an exercise into the real thing with extreme programming Should a private course that's being booked run for 2 days or 3? Or on a longer subject for 5 days or 4? I'm often left having to make a recommendation. Book direct, or through a third party? For most of the courses we give, we group up delegates from different companies - perhaps one or two in the pharmaceutical industry from Essex, a financial modeler from London, a seismological researcher from Saudi Arabia, a civil servant from Leeds and a web site designer from Wavertree, and we run ... | 2010-08-20 (longer) | 2881 | Tailoring of courses to meet customers needs - how it works We can - and do - tailor private courses (i.e. courses that we run for a single organization) in fact, we insist on asking a few questions about what use is going to be made of the subject and the background of the delegates - so you could say that every course is tailored. It makes the course much ... | 2010-07-30 | 2802 | After the Perl course in Nurnberg
The human body is a very efficient heater ... and it's surprising just how much heat is put out by equipment such as laptop computers. So the last three days in Nuremberg, training a group of 20 in what I'm told is a heatwave for here has been hot. That was 21 people + 21 laptops = 42 heater ... | 2010-06-12 | 1968 | Review of 2008 The last day, of the last month. So a good day to look back to 2008.

I believe that our solution provides an innovative way of meeting advanced requirements ... | 2008-02-27 | 1414 | What we teach - expained for the non-technical "Explain each of the subjects that we teach in a short paragraph written for mangers and booking / administrative people who aren't into the technology themselves" ... a challenge from Lisa which I have spend some time on today. And as I'm giving a Perl course tomorrow, what better way to get back into ... | 2007-11-20 (longest) | 1092 | Tcl training - often for a larger group There's a different 'metric' for courses in the different languages we teach - PHP programmers come in ones and twos much of the time, but almost all of the Tcl training we do is for larger groups of delegates, in private courses at their place of work. Why is this?
Tcl is used as an embedded element ... | 2007-02-27 | 181 | Maximum number of trainees on a course If I run a course for you, a big part of the cost is my time and travel; the incremental cost of each trainee added is relatively small.
