DESCRIPTION
An intensive two day workshop style course for
programmers with some prior
PHP experience who wish to make full use of the facilities of the language
to write robust, reliable, secure and maintainable innovative web sites for
their companies and clients. You'll arrive the evening before the course
at our hotel - settle in, get
a good nights sleep, and get on line with your own computer or with one of
our loan systems, talking to our PHP web servers, and ready for your course.
After a brief revision of the mechanisms of the PHP language itself, we go on
to look at how you should write code to enhance the user experience - to make
fields "sticky", to maintain knowledge of each user to your site, to work out
where in the world they're visiting from and whether your visitors are regular
users, or crawlers indexing your page.
We cover the design of multiform applications, and how that can be done with
the flexibility to reuse code across bewteen pages without substnatial recoding,
and how to use databases for images, for user preferences, and for regular
data.
Flexible use of URLs, handling errors and error pages, and site seraches are
all tools whihc PHP can help you with - whether you're looking for a simple
logging script, a "did you mean" type facility for sound-alike works, or even
a full spell chacker.
With a wide variety of techniques covered through the two days, the final
session brings the aspects that are especially relevant to each delegate
together in a final practical session that helps you cement what you have
learned.

SUBJECT BACKGROUND
PHP is a programming language that - at its simplest - is
embedded in web pages to add server side control to them. But you can
do much more that than with PHP - you can write complete web based
applications, such as many of those we run on this site.
