[Update - Although this article was written several years ago, it still reflects our beliefs and values. We've added MySQL, Python and Linux to our offerings since - please use the other links around this article to explore for further details]
Welcome to our third newsletter - we hope you'll enjoy reading our mix of news about the worlds of Java, Tcl, Perl and PHP, technical articles on those subjects, and information about our training courses.
Open source and freely distributed software has made a huge impact on professional computing and on the Internet. Commercial companies, looking to raise their income through add on value, often sell tools to sit on top of such free software. These tools can be excellent, but are rarely used by more than a few percent of the users.
It's our policy to provide you with training based on free distributions. It allows us to provide you with really good value for money as we have no licensing fees to pay. It also means that your staff will come back trained on the software that you already have (or can easily obtain), rather than returning to demand that you spend still more money.
We never cease to be amazed at just what *is* out there for free - have a look our book review - "Perl! I didn't know you could do that" which shows you how to use standard or CPAN facilities to handle databases, Audio Files, Excel documents and much more.
