For 2023 (and 2024 ...) - we are now fully retired from IT training.
We have made many, many friends over 25 years of teaching about Python, Tcl, Perl, PHP, Lua, Java, C and C++ - and MySQL, Linux and Solaris/SunOS too. Our training notes are now very much out of date, but due to upward compatability most of our examples remain operational and even relevant ad you are welcome to make us if them "as seen" and at your own risk.

Lisa and I (Graham) now live in what was our training centre in Melksham - happy to meet with former delegates here - but do check ahead before coming round. We are far from inactive - rather, enjoying the times that we are retired but still healthy enough in mind and body to be active!

I am also active in many other area and still look after a lot of web sites - you can find an index ((here))
Cookie Law

The European Parliament has voted for a regulation of Cookies as part of their adoption of the Cybercrime treaty. Under the regulation, it would be illegal to "use Cookies, Spyware, web bugs and other hidden identifiers ... to store information or trace the activities of the user".

There is currently some dispute amongst computer professionals as to what this will mean in practice; it seems that under the proposals, undated cookies (those that die when you close your browser, and are not stored to your disc) are still acceptable, but persistent cookies are not. It's not clear whether persistent cookie may legally be sent from a server in a country outside Europe (e.g. the USA) to a browser in Europe, or whether browser authors should supply European versions that don't allow cookies. It does seem that persistant cookies ARE allowed on a web site provided that the web site itself asks the user whether he/she accepts them.

Until these matters are resolved, we've modified the standard libraries that we use in our contact work to operate correctly on both hidden fields and cookies (persistant or otherwise). In that way, our client's sites can rapidly be modified to conform to any new laws. We've always had a policy of writing code that's easily transferred between servers, so if a site has to be moved "offshore" that will be straightforward too.

Please note that articles in this section of our web site were current and correct to the best of our ability when published, but by the nature of our business may go out of date quite quickly. The quoting of a price, contract term or any other information in this area of our website is NOT an offer to supply now on those terms - please check back via our main web site
