For 2023 (and 2024 ...) - we are now fully retired from IT training.
We have made many, many friends over 25 years of teaching about Python, Tcl, Perl, PHP, Lua, Java, C and C++ - and MySQL, Linux and Solaris/SunOS too. Our training notes are now very much out of date, but due to upward compatability most of our examples remain operational and even relevant ad you are welcome to make us if them "as seen" and at your own risk.

Lisa and I (Graham) now live in what was our training centre in Melksham - happy to meet with former delegates here - but do check ahead before coming round. We are far from inactive - rather, enjoying the times that we are retired but still healthy enough in mind and body to be active!

I am also active in many other area and still look after a lot of web sites - you can find an index ((here))

3747An easy way to comply with the new cookie law if your site is well designed
If your website is well structured, it shouldn't be a big problem update it to become compliant with the new cookie law - see [here]. I've completed the changes on three sites so far today - Well House Consultants, Well House Manor and Melksham Chamber of Commerce, and I have done considerable work ...

2917Upload Image, Store in database, redisplay in browser. PHP and MySQL
If you have just a few images that you want to display on your web site, keep them as regular files on your server. But if you've thousands, it's better to keep them in a database and server them via a script - such as a PHP script. And if you're dealing with thousands of images, you probably want ...

2715Uploading an image, document or pdf via a browser (php)
One of the most popular scripts on our web site is a demonstration, with full source code, of how you can upload data from a browser, store it into a MySQL database, pull it back from that database, and display it within a new or future response pages. But there's a lot of steps in that upload - store ...

2539Changing Images
The simplest ideas are often the best ... and the simple idea of having a picture that automatically changes from time to time on your web page helps keep your customer's interest up when he returns to your site. You're seeing a picture of our dog Gypsy to the right of this block of text, but I don't ...

2343World Flags in your PHP pages
The world's flags are often used to give a quick visible international indication of countries (sidestepping the issue I had yesterday, where I was translating into ten languages and wanted links to each other language on each page and - well - what IS the Finnish for Italy?) So I have found an Icon ...

2031Choosing from an image with an image map
We'll be replacing the images of the Hudson River that have been on some of the pages of our web site for a while with a new series of Well House Consultants / Well House Manor pictures in the near future. Here's a postage stamp preview of my draft collection and it illustrates our wide range of activities! Click ...

806Check your user is human. Have him retype a word in a graphic
Do you have trouble with automated programs completing forms on your websites and making cart loads of submissions? Or even just a few spammers submitting their betting ads, performance enhancing pill sites, and share purchase suggestions? And yet you don't want to have to have anyone who wants to ...

1506Ongoing Image Copyright Issues, PHP and MySQL solutions
I actually want to encourage people to use my images ... but to do so with permission, which usually means something as simple as a link back you our page which works out for everyone's benefit. A lot of people ask, but some don't seem to know that they should! I've added an ability to "watermark" ...
