History
Resources from the web site of Well House Consultants on the subject of History. We provide open source training course and business hotel accommodation in Melksham, Wiltshire, England

Background
Well House Consultants was formed by Graham Ellis in 1995 to provide contract training for a company running Solaris and Irix courses. We wrote our first Open Source course in 1996 which was initially sold through that same company, but in 2000 we opened our own training centre and we now offer a wide range of open source courses - all of which we write, maintain and present ourselves as we feel that this gives us the best tight control over product content, quality and reliability. In 2006, we opened our own training centre and hotel so that we can now provide the you with a complete training package - from a place for an individual on a public course, through a private course at our centre for your group, to on site training at your office if appropriate.

We could spend ...

3510The skull above the door in Melksham Town Hall
Fishermen using a net in a deep pool in the Avon in May 1838 had a big surprise when the net pulled up a very heavy object. It turned out to be the horns and part of the skull of an ox, about a third larger than anything they had ever seen before. It turned out to be part of a fossil skull ...

It's truely amazing just how much historic information you can find online these days if you want to - that's Internet historc data; by contrast it can be very hard to look back prior to the days of The Web in some areas - you just try putting together a table of London to Manchester train fares and ...

2968Well House Consultants - a potted history
"Do you do a course on Perl?" I suppose the question was a natural one, asked of me way back in 1996. After all, I was a trainer teaching subjects such as C Programming, Introduction to Solaris, and Silicon Graphics courses such as Irix for Users and GL programming. And I was using Perl to provide ...

38An update for old friends
From time to time, old friends from the days that I was presenting courses for First Alternative get in touch with us - we're always delighted to hear. It seems a long time since I was training on Solaris in Harwell with Mick Hosegood and Peter Burton, and a lot of water has passed under the bridge since ...
