Resources from the web site of Well House Consultants on the subject of Staff. We provide
Our staff have many years of experience. Between the 3
of us on the technical team, that works out around
a total of 80 man-years. Your course will be taught by a
professional who's a real enthusiast for the subject he's
teaching; he'll be teaching using his own training notes,
developed with his experience on the subject in question.
The support staff know their onions too ... phone or email
at any time, and you'll be answered by someone who'll ask
about what your training needs are and will suggest the
right course for you.

A very happy Christmas from the Well House Manor team. We've enjoyed having you stay with us in 2013 and look forward to seeing you again in 2014.
Pictures by Rachel, for our company Christmas meal - a great evening at the Greyhound in ...
|4189||Who are we - Lisa, Graham, Gypsy and Billy|
Lisa and Graham [Ellis], Gypsy and Billy. Gypsy is a lurcher - a Staffie / Greyhound crossbreed (we think) and Billy is a Greyhound - don't know if he's totally purebred. Both came to us as "rescue"s - Gypsy about 4 years ago from the Dog's Trust in Newbury, and Billy from Bristol DAWG (Dog Action Welfare ...
|3961||Well House Staff Party|
A great time had by all at the Lamb at Strand last night - it was a chance for me to say "thank you" to the best team that I've ever worked with. And I'm proud to say it here, in public, too.
We're all looking forward to seeing you in 2013. Whether you're attending one of our IT courses or simply staying ...
|185||Who am I?|
Do you know who I am? I'm Graham Ellis, author, and trainer on the Perl, PHP, Python (and other) courses run by Well House consultants.
If you were reading "The Horse's Mouth" from day 1, last August, you'll now this. If you're a customer you'll know it too. But we've been growing; these daily jottings ...
|3490||How not to call when job seeking ...|
How to lose any chance you may have when calling to ask about a job:
* Call with the family in the room making plenty of noise.
* Sound desparate - ask for "anything".
* Don't give your name or introduce yourself.
* Make it obvious you haven't researched the company you're calling.
* Blurt out your request ...
|3586||Emergency First Aid Provision at Well House Manor - part of the service|
We were on the "other end" of training today - receiving a course rather than giving one. And we've now got four members of staff - that's every weekday shift covered - with someone who's taken the Emergency first aid at work course - and passed with flying colours.
We hope that we never have to ...
|10||What do you look for in your IT trainer?|
Who should you learn from? Should you learn from the most knowledgeable person that you can find on the subject you want to learn?
Not necessarily. The geek that you find may not be a skilled tutor, may not have training material, may assume too much prior knowledge and, importantly, may not know ...
|2775||Declarations of interest - knowing where you stand with people|
"I wonder what HIS agenda is ..." - a question asked at the Steering Group meeting for the TransWilts Community Rail Partnership, when we met earlier today. And the question - about someone else who's a good ear-bender in the railway campaigning arena - is a good one. If someone's on the payroll of ...
Congratulations to Rachel, who completed her final exam of her apprenticeship at the tail end of last week. She's passed the course with flying colours and, I understand, in something of a record time.
A year ago, I wouldn't have considered that we're big enough to employ apprentices, nor that we ...
|3425||Our National Autograss Champion, from Melksham|
Congratulation to Sarah, one of our key team members, in regaining the National Autograss Racing Championship (for class 2 vehicles) at Hereford last weekend. Pictured here holding a rather large cup, a certificate, and goodness knows what else.
Sarah's been dedicated to the sport for a number of ...
We've got a great team at Well House Manor. I'll share a message I tweeted to Lisa quite late in the day, after we were past the "every garden table occupied" peak mid-afternoon:
Excellent staff is .... Heather showing people around and making sure they're happy, Rachel stopping around while we were ...
|3212||Well House Manor - a home from home for the business and leisure guest in Melksham|
I'm very proud of our team at Well House Manor, and probably don't say "Thank You" enough too them - nor let them know often enough that I notice that the little yet some important jobs that are slightly off the routine get done.
So why am I writing about staff, and showing you pictures of ...
|3201||A change to the Well House team - thank you and good luck, Chris|
Family, friends and regular customers may know that Chris, who's worked for us for a number of years at Well House Manor, was away for a considerable period at the end of last year. Chris was admitted to hospital in August - paraphrasing Monopoly "Go directly to Hospital. Do not complete your shift. ...
|3103||Thank you - and Happy Christmas|
A personal, big, THANK YOU to all of our customers, and all our staff, for everything they've done for Well House this year, and a very happy Christmas to one and all.
A business wouldn't function without customers ... and it wouldn't be such a pleasure to run without such great customers. Almost ...
|3051||Positively reforming the system - could it be done?|
One of the frustrating things to us, as employers, is the "benefit / poverty trap". That's where someone who's currently supported by the state wishes to work, but is prevented from doing so "because it will cost me - I will loose more in benefit than I gain in salary". And that has been said - on ...
|2050||Why the Pony Tail?|
I'm not sure if "why do you have a ponytail" is a question about a course or about a subject we teach ... actually it's rather personal... but it's a good question and I have chosen to answer in this case. Here are three possible answers for the beard - and - ponytail question. Which do you think it ...
|2960||The Well House team - September 2010|
If you're a regular reader, you'll have seen me advertising an opportunity to join our team [here], and we also put the word around in more conventional ways such as a line in the local newspaper. And we were spoiled for choice ... some really good candidates. I let people know a week ago on Friday, ...
|2934||Not so much software training - more hotel keeping!|
These last few days, I've changed from being a software trainer to being a hotel keeper, a conference co-ordinator, a breakfast chef, a staffing organiser, and a sales and marketing person for hotel rooms and for training courses. So there's no Perl or wisdom, no Ruby gem for me to blog about.
|2772||Graham Ellis - Summary of Training Record|
It's surprisingly rare that I'm asked for my own training record ... and that's probably no bad thing, as it's only a part of what I have learned over the years. It's a vital part, but the additional practical experience, and hours and days of less formal study, add together to make a more complete ...
|2566||Excellent staff make for excellent hotel|
What makes a good hotel? Good facilities, and good staff. And what makes an excellent hotel? Excellent facilities, and excellent staff.
We have an excellent team - I (Graham) am pictured here, together with (and in alphabetic order!) Chris, Lisa and Sarah (we have excellent facilities too).
In the ...
|1065||Graham Ellis - an Introduction|
Sharing an introduction I made elsewhere - I'm not just an IT trainer - I do have other interests!
Hi, I'm Graham Ellis. I've been in the "IT" industry for 30+ years, and I live in Melksham, Wiltshire. I run specialist training courses here and many of my customers (or until last December, they came) ...
|2164||Updating my public profile - Graham Ellis|
It's when delegates start asking me how old the picture of me in the back of the training notes is that I realise I should update my picture from time to time - not that people choose the person to teach their PHP course based on a photo of the tutor.
The picture on the right is me, taken on 27th April ...
|2044||Please Trouble me|
"I don't like to trouble you" ... so say the British, and the British delegates who come on our courses. It's something of a nationalistic trait (goodness - I hope it isn't that I'm an Ogre, though I understand they have hearts too). But I want people to trouble me!. Why?
Because I want to know what ...
|2009||The Royal Mail Receipt|
You might be amazed just how much goes on behind a small business like our ... here's a story, written up by Lisa, to Chris who look after the Petty Cash, that's just landed in my mailbox .... enjoy ....
I have tracked down the answer to the Royal Mail receipt that had shown up in the petty cash box. ...
|1141||A strong team broadens the professional coverage|
At the very tail end of last month, we ran a MySQL course back in the old training centre rather that at Well House Manor - quite simply, we're getting busier with external bookings as well as our own courses, and now that we have three conference rooms we can mix and match as appropriate. The "Old ...
|1002||Meet the neighbours|
Last night, we held our 'neighbours reception' at Well House Manor. There are 8 adjoining properties, another half dozen or so facing us across the road and some others very close by. Our place would probably have been replaced by 23 dwelling units but for their effective campaigns against planning ...
Monday morning saw me at 'The Manor' before 6 O'clock ... to welcome Martin onto our team. We met Martin soon after we started the process of puchasing "The Old Manor" as it then was ... he had just moved to the Melksham area a month or two earlier and was settling into his first job here. But you know ...
|88||Getting the right level of trainer|
There are tiers of trainers, and if you're choosing a technical trainer for yourself or your staff, you need someone from the right tier.
In the upper tier, you have Experts with a "Capital E". They really know their subject inside out, and they can present courses to highly technical audiences really ...

I'm delighted to announce the appointment of Chris Ellis to a new role as General Manager of our Well House Manor hotel ([Link]).

|1083||Behind the scenes|
Behind every successful course, conference or hotel stay there's a team of people working to make it that success. Here's a few pictures of our "behind the scenes" team.
Christine prepares to serve for a day conference.
Martin prepares the "Wilts" - our larger conference room - before the start ...
|972||Both one team and two|
Last night ... a great night was had by all at the skittle evening we arranged at Melksham House - the Cooper Avon sports and social club here in Melksham.
It was a great chance for Lisa and I to thank our team of staff and close helpers for all the hard work they've put in over the past months, with ...
|862||4 weeks to go|
A month to go ... and there's still a lot of work to be done at Well House Manor. And yet so much progress happens and suddenly things are starting to fall into place. Today and Friday, I'll be on "Office days" catching up on the mountains of paperwork and calls, and helping make sure that nothing ...
