For 2023 (and 2024 ...) - we are now fully retired from IT training.
We have made many, many friends over 25 years of teaching about Python, Tcl, Perl, PHP, Lua, Java, C and C++ - and MySQL, Linux and Solaris/SunOS too. Our training notes are now very much out of date, but due to upward compatability most of our examples remain operational and even relevant ad you are welcome to make us if them "as seen" and at your own risk.

Lisa and I (Graham) now live in what was our training centre in Melksham - happy to meet with former delegates here - but do check ahead before coming round. We are far from inactive - rather, enjoying the times that we are retired but still healthy enough in mind and body to be active!

I am also active in many other area and still look after a lot of web sites - you can find an index ((here))

3891The components of an Apache httpd / Tomcat / MySQL stack and what each does
Keep it simple and standard on the client side ... and let the server be a bit more complex. That's the philosophy of the web - and it makes sense because you'll typically have hundreds and thousand of clients - browsers - all visiting your web site which will probably be a single system - or a small ...

2599Telling Apache web servers apart / notes for the non-technical
An answer for me to usefully share ... written in answer to someone who's main role is to consolidate training requirements and provide a complete package under one banner, so isn't (and can't be expected to be) particularly techincal Our public "Deploying Apache and Tomcat" course covers the Apache ...

2130Javascript - move cursor over image to change a different image.
Let's imagine that you have an image which is a map on your web page, and as you move over the map you want another image (elsewhere on the page) to change to show the place you're pointing too. Well - it can be done with Javascript, but it's not necessarily easy to find a simple example online ... ...

576Why run two different web servers
You wouldn't choose to use a Ford Ka as your car for that holiday of a lifetime travelling across Europe, neither would you choose a Jaguar as your idea car for the school run. Yet both of them are perfectly good models of car. Indeed as a family, you might have one of each. Apache httpd and Apache ...

1621Linux and Java Course in London
There are certain locations which used to fill me with horror as to how I was going to work out the logistics of getting my equipment in and out for a course. And today's was one of those for which I would have looked on a map and shuddered. Take Liverpool Street, Aldgate and Bank (in the City of London) ...

166Acronyms
The question "What does Java stand for" is a familiar one in my mailbox ... in a world of acronyms, it seems that folks assume that any short computer words must be sets of initials. Here are the origins (to the best of my knowledge) of the names of the subjects we teach. PerlPractical Extraction ...
