Our email filters We receive thousands of unsolicited emails every day and most
of them include a virus, or are sent out to thousands of people at the same time
and are advertising products in which we have no interest at all. In order to
keep our business running efficiently, we need to filter out these emails automatically
and we use "spamassassin" to identify them.
Unfortunately, occasional emails look like they're spam but are genuine, so our spam filter sends an automated message in response to anything it blocks. If it's a true spam message that's been blocked, our message will be ignored anyway and if it's a genuine message blocked in error, then our correspondent is alterted and told what to do. Here's the current version of the message:
Automated response
==================
Sorry - your email to someone at one of the following domains:
wellho.net
chs73.info
wellho.co.uk
wellho.com
has NOT been delivered.
We receive a large quantity of bulk, unsolicited email at these
domains. Our mailwatch routine blocks final delivery of email
which appears to fall into this category. HOWEVER ... since
you're reading this message, the email it has just blocked
probably WAS genuine.
PLEASE write to us again - we don't want to miss your message!
If you add "Melksham", "Carlisle" or "edu-k" onto the subject line,
mailwatch will let it though irrespective of the rest of the email.

With unsolicited mailers getting more and more clever, it's something of a battle to keep ourselves well filtered and this is especially the case as we have to have unchanging, public addresses. Here's a further explanation (names have been changed) if you've received an automatic response from us and and looking for more information:
John,
Many thanks for alerting me to your puzzlement.
We wrote when WE received two emails that said they were from YOU!!
They arrived at 18:56 (GMT) yesterday, were addressed to mail@wellho.net,
were 70k long each, said they were from johnsomeone@hotmail.com,
and had the subject "why do you do that".
Our email addresses are well known and we receive a large number
of viruses and a great deal of unwanted advertising by email,
and very often such emails claim to come from some innocent party,
which is probably what has happened in this case. Our automated
mail filters can recognise most such emails, but they can't be
100% sure so in doubtful cases they send back the email you received
to alert you to the fact that an email, apparently from you,
was blocked - and also to tell you how you can really reach us.
Our action is pretty standard practise, and your email is the
first letter of "complaint" I have received in over a year.
We really can't turn the system off, but I can assure you it
will only write to you again if we receive a further email that
looks like a virus or spam and claims to come from you. Please
accept my apologies for the need for us to defend ourselves
in this way and have troubled you with two copies of an alert email.
Any suggestion as to how we might improve the wording of our
automated response would be gratefully received - it does seem
it wasn't clear to you. And if you happen to be passing by
our training centre (I don't know what part of the world you're
in!), do drop in for a coffee.
Graham
