For 2023 (and 2024 ...) - we are now fully retired from IT training.
We have made many, many friends over 25 years of teaching about Python, Tcl, Perl, PHP, Lua, Java, C and C++ - and MySQL, Linux and Solaris/SunOS too. Our training notes are now very much out of date, but due to upward compatability most of our examples remain operational and even relevant ad you are welcome to make us if them "as seen" and at your own risk.

Lisa and I (Graham) now live in what was our training centre in Melksham - happy to meet with former delegates here - but do check ahead before coming round. We are far from inactive - rather, enjoying the times that we are retired but still healthy enough in mind and body to be active!

I am also active in many other area and still look after a lot of web sites - you can find an index ((here))
Training courses - rest of 2012, 2013 and January 2014

You might thinks that August is too early to be thinking about next year's plans. It isn't.

Some of our course run every 3 or 4 months, and that means that for a handful of them, there's only one date left in the diary now for the rest of the year. So it's become an "every August" task for me to take a quiet few hours and lay out the 2013 training schedule. And also to look at how we'll start up again at the start of the following year.

Programming languages are at the eye of the storm in many ways - in amongst the swirling winds of technology the underlying logic remains the same, and things change oh-so-slowly. That's good news for the programmer, who's work will endure. And it's good news for us as we can plan well ahead. But "little change" doesn't mean "no change" and you'll find our courses gently moving forward - adding in sections, perhaps retiring older material that's no longer so mainstream, and taking a fresh look at how languages intermesh with new technology.

You'll find the following are morphing:

Our Learning to Program in Perl and Perl Programming courses have lost their sections on CGI (Common Gateway Interface) and have gained coverage of Object Orientation. We've also clarified the distinction between the courses, so that those without prior programming experience will get an extra lead in and a gentler pace on the "learning" course, and the already-skilled programmer who's converting from another language will find the pace a little sharper.

A new Django Web Framework day, to run on the end of Python courses as an optional extra, will show delegates how to make good use of their Python code in web applications.

And our SQL Course is moving away from being purely MySQL and is also covering SQLite; the two database engines are very different, but have a great commonality too and both tend to be databases of choice within many open source applications.

Other courses many morph too - in fact it's a continuous process. There's no 18 month lead time for course changes. But you can - if you wish - book and plan ahead. The full schedule is [here] on our website, and bookings are open. Prices for 2013 haven't been set yet - alas they're unlikely to go down. But if you book and confirm by the end of this year, you can have your places at 2012 prices, even if you don't come until Spring 2013.
