Alan Turing - 1912 to 1954

I probably wouldn't be where I am today without a man who died a month before I was born. And who would have been 100 years old today. Alan Turing, one of the legends of modern computing, is also (alas) remembered as a 'cause celebre' in the mistreatment of its citizens by the UK legal system and government. Wikipedia and Guardian Article and techworld amongst the tributes. Tribute too from Google - who's home page doodle represents a Turing machine.

Did you know ... that the "T" in Captcha - those "retype this word" tests which help filter out automated attempts to log in to sites - stands for "Turing" too? See [here].
