For 2023 (and 2024 ...) - we are now fully retired from IT training. We have made many, many friends over 25 years of teaching about Python, Tcl, Perl, PHP, Lua, Java, C and C++ - and MySQL, Linux and Solaris/SunOS too. Our training notes are now very much out of date, but due to upward compatability most of our examples remain operational and even relevant ad you are welcome to make us if them "as seen" and at your own risk.
Lisa and I (Graham) now live in what was our training centre in Melksham - happy to meet with former delegates here - but do check ahead before coming round. We are far from inactive - rather, enjoying the times that we are retired but still healthy enough in mind and body to be active!
I am also active in many other area and still look after a lot of web sites - you can find an index ((here)) |
Ruby - training for automated testing users
Another one for our FAQ, perhaps?
Q: I have a question about the course 'Learning to Program in Ruby - training course'. I would like to know whether this course can be attended by people who don't have any Programming Knowledge or experience, and also whether this course can be helpful for Manual Testers who wants to learn Ruby for Automation testing purposes.
A: Hi ... the answers are "yes" and "yes".
1. The "Learning to program in Ruby" course which you ask about is specifically designed for delegates without prior programming experience; we offer shorter course - "Ruby Programming - for delegates who have prior programming experience and so don't need to spend the extra time on the basics.
2. The course is suitable for automated testing users - if you're using Watir or Selenium, for example. However, it does not include coverage of the test environments themselves, which is a quite different subject to the programming language (Ruby) element. Ruby is used in a lot of applications - most notably Ruby on Rails (a web framework that you did not ask about) and many courses cover Ruby only as used in Rails. Our course is significant in that it's much more general. (written 2010-06-25)
