With thousands of pictures on our web site, I often get asked for permission to reuse them - and I'm usually very happy to grant such permission. However, a few pictures aren't actually my copyright, and others are used on our site on the understanding that I won't let them be used elsewhere. If you want to use some pictures, please write and ask
and tell me which pictures and where they'll be going. If you write something along these lines:
"""I'm a student at Xxxxxxxxxx school and I am currently doing my ICT AiDA coursework, it is required that I get permission to use pictures off of the internet, please may I use some of the pictures from your website for my coursework?"""
then I
can't give permission for use straight away - I simply have to write back as follows:
Dear Xxxxxxx,
Most, but not all, of the pictures on our various websites, are my copyright and are free from other restrictions so I can grant permission to use them. I usually do so for college students in their coursework; however, a few are not images that I took so I have no authority to give further use permission, or appear with the understanding of the subject or owner of the object shown that they'll not be reused elsewhere,
Please email me the full URLs (web addresses) of the pictures that you wish you use, and I will probably then be able to give you permission, subject to a footnote acknowledging copyright.
If your coursework will itself be a web page that people can visit (either within the school or more widely), I will also ask you to provide a link on the copyright back to our web site, and to let me know the name of the web site ( e.g. www.xxxxxxxxxschool.co.uk). Knowing the web site name ahead of time will allow me to log your use should your use get queried / picked up by filters in the future.
