For 2023 (and 2024 ...) - we are now fully retired from IT training.
We have made many, many friends over 25 years of teaching about Python, Tcl, Perl, PHP, Lua, Java, C and C++ - and MySQL, Linux and Solaris/SunOS too. Our training notes are now very much out of date, but due to upward compatability most of our examples remain operational and even relevant ad you are welcome to make us if them "as seen" and at your own risk.

Lisa and I (Graham) now live in what was our training centre in Melksham - happy to meet with former delegates here - but do check ahead before coming round. We are far from inactive - rather, enjoying the times that we are retired but still healthy enough in mind and body to be active!

I am also active in many other area and still look after a lot of web sites - you can find an index ((here))

4020Melksham Community - Annual Report / MCAP
This evening's MCAP (Melksham Community Area Partnership) AGM was well attended - good to see a couple of new faces - sad that there weren't certain groups (youth, traders) represented there (as far as I could tell), as there's so much that MCAP could do for them, and so much they could do for the town. It's ...

58Call Centres, selling, and a pause for thought
Have you noticed that telephone calls you "have to" make to renew a service are now being taken as an opportunity to sell to you? It happened to me just the other day when I called in to confirm receipt of a new credit card. "While we're waiting for the computer to authorise you, can I just ask you ...

3774Melksham - a new dawn
Sunrise over Melksham this morning - 23rd June 2012 at 05:05. View taken from our upstairs back window. I love living here and in this town. We may grumble a bit at times, but we've got a lot going for us and the people are great. And just at the moment there are so many things going on that could make ...

Melksham House - an old postcard from the collection of Simon Brewer I've just been tagging images - that's to help search engines identify what's shown in our various pictures. 3704The Bowerhill Villager - a newsletter for Bowerhill, Melksham
The Bowerhill Villager is our local newsletter - it's published and printed monthly, and distributed to around 1,600 homes in Bowerhill and The Spa, Melksham. And it gets results! I know the team involved well (some very well), and I'll often hear how a holiday cottage that was advertised is now full ...

3677Some advise for guest speakers at meetings
I "get around" in various roles I hold - to SCOB meetings (to do with the Melksham Campus), to rail meetings (to do with better rail services in Wiltshire). Usually, there's a guest speaker or guest visitors at the meeting; on a few occasions, that's my role. And the behaviour of the guest speaker fascinates ...

3604Melksham Campus - a blog you can read, and a place you can comment
I'm a member of the SCOB - the Shadow Campus Operations Board - and last night I attended a meeting to learn about the uses that are being made of current facilities, from their users, about their current concerns, and about what they would like to see for the future. I can't possibly be knowledgeable ...

3484A Melksham Timeline - Domesday to present day
Some events and dates from our local history. Not all sources agree on some of the years quoted, and you may find a little duplication too ... 1086: At the time of the Domesday Book (1086) the capital, or chief, manor of Melksham was held by the crown. It was a large and valuable estate, which eventually ...

I've written a profile of myself [Graham Ellis], and of Well House Consultants (which I set up in 1995, and run with my wife Lisa), before. We were invited back to the dog show open day at The Dog's Trust near Newbury, from where we adopted Gypsy a few months ago. Yes - I know the real reason to invite everyone back was for them to make money, but it was never the less a good day's outing. I suppose I should have expected a lot ...
