Programming in Python and Ruby - Programming in the Python and Ruby languages
What is Ruby? (LL57)
Posted by admin (Graham Ellis), 12 August 2002Ruby is a modern, object oriented scripting language, originating in Japan and now growing slowly bute surely in the USA. On our past experience, the next step in this pattern will be something of a takeoff in the UK.
I like what I see in Ruby for the serious scripter; as well as providing an excellent object model, it has the power of perlesque regular expressions and already an infrastructure of additional software that allows you - for example - to embed it in a web page rather like PHP.
This board is provided for newcomers to Ruby in the UK to post their questions; it's early days yet, and I'll ensure that I check back in frequently and post up responses - Ruby classes, turorials and training notes are as yet thin on the ground.
