My early web applications contained ... in a single file
- HTML to describe the type of element - e.g. "headline"
- CSS to descibe how each element type is displayed - e.g. "Verdana"
- JavaScript to provide program elements to the browser - e.g. "submit on enter"
- PHP to add program elements on the server - e.g. "insert message of the day here"
- SQL to look up database records - e.g. "Offer places at the seaside"
- Metatags to provide background information - e.g. "Copyright Well House Consultants"
- Headers to tell the browser what to do - e.g. "This is HTML which will be valid for 2 hours"
- Data Content ... what the page is actually about!
and closely linked in other files might be
- Images - pictures for display within the pahe
- favicon.ico - the icon to go in the URL / bookmark line
- robots.txt - a file to tell automated browsers where that may not go
- sitemap.xml - a file to tell search engines about the pages on the site
No one person can be an expert at all of those!!
