For 2023 (and 2024 ...) - we are now fully retired from IT training.
We have made many, many friends over 25 years of teaching about Python, Tcl, Perl, PHP, Lua, Java, C and C++ - and MySQL, Linux and Solaris/SunOS too. Our training notes are now very much out of date, but due to upward compatability most of our examples remain operational and even relevant ad you are welcome to make us if them "as seen" and at your own risk.

Lisa and I (Graham) now live in what was our training centre in Melksham - happy to meet with former delegates here - but do check ahead before coming round. We are far from inactive - rather, enjoying the times that we are retired but still healthy enough in mind and body to be active!

I am also active in many other area and still look after a lot of web sites - you can find an index ((here))

4101POETS day at Well House Manor
It's POETS day - "Push off Early - Tomorrow's Saturday". No course, no events at the hotel. Sarah, who usually does the Friday morning shift, took the day as holiday and I stood in with a view to catching up on a few things I needed to do, expecting it to be quiet. I also decided to log comings and goings ...

525Vision AND venture
"Vision is not enough - it must be combined with venture." That's what the slip of paper in my fortune cookie at the Chinese Restaurant told me last Friday night. A wise saying which I folded carefully and slipped into my credit card holder. The lady at Chan's Kitchen in Devizes where we eat from time ...

3814Returning guests - a sign of a good product. Cream teas and hotel rooms.
1.  We're getting busier and busier at Well House Manor 2. Many of our guests are returning guests - we're seeing familiar faces for our cream teas, and some of our hotel guests have been with us dozens of times. What does 1. plus 2. mean? It means we must be doing something right, as our customers ...

3800Fancy a weekend away? Try Well House Manor in Melksham, Wiltshire
Wiltshire is a beautiful county, and Melksham has some gems, and is an excellent touring base too. This is the Pack Horse Bridge - perhaps 300 years old - a short distance downriver from the town. 2962Well House Manor - the history of the hotel
Well House Manor was built in 1906, as a home, on a 3/4 acre plot on what was then the outskirts of a much smaller Melksham. Originally, the staircase lead up from the right of the entrance door, and we believe that the ceiling was much higher, there being no room above. Around 1920, the staircase ...

Cruise Liner in Venice. Waiting for a pizza in the Acropolis on Tuesday, I was reading the material they provided ("The Sun"). 575Eating for the single business traveller
Hello from Southend, where I'm giving a private course on Apache httpd and Tomcat. With our hotel getting busier every month, and with advertising in place to fill rooms at weekends and holidays when our training courses are not in full swing, it seems a good time to update our terms and conditions. 1059Three sets of twins
I've heard it said that a hotel sets up a bedroom as a single if there isn't room for a double bed in the room, and as a double if there isn't room for twin beds. But our doubles aren't like that - we provide mostly double room since people, even on their own, usually LIKE a double bed. But we can ...

963George Hotel and Well House Manor, Melksham
The George Hotel, Melksham, stood on the corner or Lowborne and Bath Road - prime real estate in the town centre; alas, it was demolished around 60 years ago to make way for a modern (then) parade of shops which now are showing their age and considered to something of an eyesore in many of our Vistas. ...

"Do what I mean". One of the new buzzwords for Perl 6. I first heard the new term "DWIM" mentioned some three or four years ago and it's a noble target.
