For 2023 (and 2024 ...) - we are now fully retired from IT training.
We have made many, many friends over 25 years of teaching about Python, Tcl, Perl, PHP, Lua, Java, C and C++ - and MySQL, Linux and Solaris/SunOS too. Our training notes are now very much out of date, but due to upward compatability most of our examples remain operational and even relevant ad you are welcome to make us if them "as seen" and at your own risk.

Lisa and I (Graham) now live in what was our training centre in Melksham - happy to meet with former delegates here - but do check ahead before coming round. We are far from inactive - rather, enjoying the times that we are retired but still healthy enough in mind and body to be active!

I am also active in many other area and still look after a lot of web sites - you can find an index ((here))
Short Web Addresses for Melksham

Web Addresses - URLs - get too long to remember, and they take up "real estate" in short messages. Which is why there are a number of shortening services out there, many of which are automatic. You really don't want to have to use up 60 characters of your 140 on Twitter with a URL, nor dictate 60 characters over the phone to someone. And have you ever had a URL sent to you in an email get an extra line break inserted because it's simply too long for the line?

But generalised shortening services often produce human-unfriendly URLs. Yes - they may be short, but they're also meaningless to the reader in themselves.

With a new short domain name I have just registered, and a PHP program (I'm teaching a PHP course this week) I've written to redirect, I've provided for myself (pure selfishness here!) quick and easy links to many local Melksham resources:

http://melksh.am/weather - Melksham's Weather
http://melksh.am/diary - Melksham Diary
http://melksh.am/driving - Driving distances and times to Melksham

http://melksh.am/town - Melksham Town Council
http://melksh.am/without - Melksham Without Parish Council
http://melksh.am/cap - Melksham Community Area Partnership

and links to some of my areas of specific interest:

http://melksh.am/museum - Melksham Museum
http://melksh.am/chamber - Chamber of Commerce
http://melksh.am/campus - Melksham Campus
http://melksh.am/twcrp - TransWilts Community Rail Partnership

not forgetting our own offerings, such as:

http://melksh.am/hotel - Our hotel in Melksham
http://melksh.am/cafe - Cafe - cream teas, coffees and more
http://melksh.am/course - Schedule of public open source courses

There are plenty more too - if you put in http://melksh.am/contents, you'll get a list. And please feel free to email me with any more suggestions!

This is a page archived from The Horse's Mouth at http://www.wellho.net/horse/ - the diary and writings of Graham Ellis. Every attempt was made to provide current information at the time the page was written, but things do move forward in our business - new software releases, price changes, new techniques. Please check back via our main site for current courses, prices, versions, etc - any mention of a price in "The Horse's Mouth" cannot be taken as an offer to supply at that price.
