Melksham House - an old postcard from the collection of Simon Brewer I've just been tagging images - that's to help search engines identify what's shown in our various pictures.

The way I do my tagging also tells me which pictures I've uploaded, but haven't blogged about, and I'm featuring some of those in this post.
The Dry earth closet, invented by Henry Moule who was born in Melksham, is credited with saving thousand of lives ...
Whenever you look, there's a lot happening in Melksham. For the current diary, look
[here] if you're on a laptop, or
[here] if you're on a mobile device.
New trains on the Metropolitain line. The picture was taken at King's Cross. I'm slightly jealous - we could do with
any trains here on the TransWilts line, and the old ones being taken off the underground are being SENT FOR SCRAP!
From Bradshaw's 1911 edition - a page of the timetable for trains that call at Melksham. Since 1911, many stations have been closed - but the majority of those that remain open have a far better service. Melksham is unusual - almost unique - in that it has an open railway station, but the service is a pittance compared to even the 1911 level. Where other's rail service has progressed, ours has fallen behind.
The Well House Collection - a branch of the Museum of Melksham Opens on Saturday, 12th May at 11:00. All welcome. Strawberry Cream Teas available in the Whitworth room that afternoon, and every afternoon through the summer thereafter. We'll be exhibiting many pictures and artefacts from Melksham, starting off with a display that relates to Travel and Transport and will include at least two of the items illustrated above (no, not the tube trains, though -
did you know - a great deal of railway equipment is made here in Melksham?)
