I don't know who "Freddie" is ... but I came across "Freddie's Wood" today on my way back from the canal. It was a beautiful winter's day and after our walk down from Bowerhill (see
here) we had turned right towards Bath, rather than left towards "The Barge", looking to explore the field path up to the playing fields. Little did we expect to find the gem of Freddie's Wood.
Update I know now ... It's Freddie Giles - a remarkable local gentleman who featured in the "my Wiltshire Life" section of Wiltshire Times a couple of years ago ...

The trees all look young, and a great avenue is cut through them in a gentle arc, removing the starkness of a straight line.

Gypsy met up with Stripe, another hound of mixed and uncertain breed who can run like the clappers, and the two of them chased through the trees before we left to follow the track back up to Brabazon Way. As you can see from this final picture, the track has also been found by the local water course for the melting snows, and we arrived home, after an exhirating walk, the muddiest so far this year.
