Woodhenge - the field and markers

Woodhenge is just a couple of miles from its more famous neighbour of Stonehenge also on Salisburyplain - but it's much more secluded and less likely to be overrun by other visitors. I'm sure that's largely because the wood of the henge here hasn't survived - but rather the old structure is marked by modern concrete posts.

At first, the pattern looks random ...


but then you see there's order to the stones

If you want to visit Woodhenge, it's just a couple of miles north of Amesbury on the road to Pewsey and Marlborough. The Salisbury to Swindon bus goes past the road end, as do services from Salisbury to Larkhill.
