Walkers on top of the Westbury White Horse

You can see the Westbury White Horse, etched in chalk (but alas now preserved with a concrete jacket) on the flank of Salisbury plain that overlooks the Vale of Pewsey. A beautiful spot to get some fresh air on a summer's evening, and just a few miles down the A350 from our Melksham base.

Views from the White Horse are spectacular; on a clear evening you can see right across to the Marlborough downs, and right up the valley of the (Bristol) Avon too. Trains looking almost like toys buzz back and forth on the main London to Plymouth line that passes the base of the hill, and you'll see a healthy traffic in stone and cement trains as well as the passenger-carrying "125"s.


Watching the world from the White Horse

Bratton Camp is a settlement from between 2000 and 2500 years ago on top of White Horse Hill. Various earthworks including a long barrow may be found there, together with interpretation boards.
