Stoke on Trent and the potteries

Rudyard Lake
Rudyard Lake

The five towns of the potteries (Hanley, Tunstall, Stoke on Trent, Newcastle and Burslem as I recall) aren't the prettiest around and have been very much run down over the years. There's some regeneration going on these days, but if you drive around you'll see there's still a long way to go.

However, there's great beauty and scenery to the East, where hills rise and you head in the direction of Derby and the dales. You'll also find the old town of Leek there - something of a tourist town.
