Newport, South Wales
Just across the river Severn from Bristol on the way to Cardiff and West Wales (see Severncrossings) lies Newport on the river Usk.

Although know for its industrial past (and thriving light industrry to this day), Newport is set in a beautiful area and has some older history too, such as the catherdal.
St Woolos Cathedral, Newport
The Usk is crossed by some spectacular bridges of different ages. The Victorian transporter bridge consists of a very high level beam (to allow tall ships to pass under) from which is suspended a "car" - a platform onto which about 15 to 20 vehicles drive, and which then crosses the river running of rails on the high beam. Perhaps I had better show you a picture ....
