So if you want to use Perl to transfer information between two relational databases, or to talk to Microsoft Word, or to produce stand alone compiled programs, you can do so. But how do you find out how to do so?

Martin's book includes 51 recipes - each of which covers an aspect of Perl that may be awkward in another language, and would be hard to find out about from a more conventional reference book. As well as covering some of the more interesting CPAN modules, the book includes sections of some of the modules distributed with Perl 5.6, and even some aspects of the base language such as minimal and maximal matching.

This is not a beginner's book, but once you're effective with the Perl basics you'll find it an intriguing read, and a pointer in some interesting directions.
