This is an old article - written as long ago as 2002. And yet when I revisited it on 1st January 2007, there's much that's still relevant and appropriate so I've left the article in place.
We're still more that 5 years behind the time, price wise, at Well House Consultants. Our prices have just risen for the first time in 3 years, and we'll charge you £1350.00 for a five day course. Other vendors are now float around the £1750.00 mark or higher for a similar course, and I can quite easily find weeks of training that will set you back 2 grand. Perhaps we'll be there by 2012 or 2012, but at the moment we don't need to quote such figures. TO GIVE YOU SOME BACKGROUND ...
To an enquirer concerning prices, discounts etc. for training courses.
Although many training companies do offer a wide variety of discounts, it's our policy not to do so; the majority of our trainees are sent to us by their employers, and the employers prefer to have a straightforward pricing scheme that's fair to everyone. I'm sure you also noticed that we already set our prices low, so even after discount we charge less than others ... I did a comparison just last week, looking at a 5-day Java course and found the "big guns" in the business are offering:
a five day course at £1500.00 + VAT
a four day course (with topics that you need from
the basic course omitted) at £1545.00 + VAT
a five day course (but slower paced, not including JSP
or Servlets) at £1595.00 + VAT
Our five-day course (the one I was comparing to) costs £1090.00 + VAT; and that's run in a purpose fitted training centre (not a hotel room) with a maximum of 8 trainees (and not several dozen) on the course.
We do offer a £90.00 discount off the second and subsequent place booked on the same course on the same order. Prices - mid 2002.
TO ANSWER YOU SPECIFICALLY ...
I'm not saying "never", but don't bet on getting a discount by leaving a booking late. If you phoned up the day before a course was due to start, you might be lucky. Or you might not - there might well not be any places available (see our strict limit above), or the people who discuss any discount might not be able to get together in time.
Longish answer there ... hope it fills you in. Although we have a strict discount policy, we do look to tailoring and providing training programs to suit individual needs, for example we're quite happy to add one or two extra advanced topics in one evening during the course if that's relevant to you, and we encourage you to bring along your own data / use it in practicals ... which will then be emailed back to you after the course is through.
