[imgl=trojail]Trowbridge old Jail[/img]Trowbridge is only 6 miles from our
Melksham training centre and
Hotel. Although it's the country town of Wiltshire, it's not grown anything like as much as
Salisbury or
Swindon and these days it's a typical Wiltshire town with a variety of residential and light industrial areas. See also

[imgr=trowbridge2]The Town hall and The Isaac Pitman[/img]Shorthand (also known as Phonography) was invented by Isaac Pitman, who was born in Trowbridge in 1813 and lived in various places in the town until 1831. Today, his contribution is celebrated in the town through several memorial plaques - and also by the JD Wetherspoon's pub known as the "Isaac Pitman", and situated in the old Market House. If we're in Trowbridge and want a quick and very reasonably priced meal, "The Pitman"'s often our choice.
