Radstock is in North East Somerset, just 25 minutes drive to the south of
Bath.
Map locator - Radstock
Radstock was formerly at the heart of the Somerset Coal Field, but all the pits closed quite a time ago and it's now a commuter town for Bath; heavy mineral extraction remains in the form of quarries just to the south of Radstock, from where much of the stone is taken away by train via
Frome - a town that's just a few files away.
Radstock itself used to have two railway lines running through the heart of it - a branch of the Great Western, and the Somerset and Dorset main line on its way from Bath to
Bournemouth, with express trains such as the Pines Express coming from as far afield as
Manchester.
