Newport, South Wales, Countryside
Although know for its industrial past (and thriving light industry to this day), Newport is set in a beautiful area and has some older history too, such as the cathedral.
St Woolos Cathedral, Newport
The Usk is crossed by some spectacular bridges of different ages. The Victorian transporter bridge consists of a very high level beam (to allow tall ships to pass under) from which is suspended a "car" - a platform onto which about 15 to 20 vehicles drive, and which then crosses the river running of rails on the high beam. Perhaps I had better show you a picture ....

There are more modern bridges too.

Civic Centre, Newport
Newport makes and excellent touring centre for South Wales. The pictures on this page (see
Photocredits) were provided by our good friend Chris Isaac of the
Manor Hotel, who would be delighted to look after you, I'm sure.
